Notes

National Suicide Day was a means by which to cope with death. After such a long and terrible winter, though, the people of Medallion go into a frenzy upon seeing the bridge they never got to work on. They welcome death as a gift and all actually commit suicide on National Suicide Day, except for Shadrack.
