  • How does Morrison characterize Sula’s views on love, sex, and marriage? What does her perspective suggest about the overall meaning of the text thus far? 
  • To what extent did the Peace women’s views on men inform Sula’s?
  • What are Nel’s views on marriage? To what extent are they similar to Sula’s? The speaker in “About Marriage?”
  • If Morrison and Levertov were to engage in a conversation about marriage, what common views would they share? Where would their viewpoints differ? 
     

Homework


Watch and take note of Beyonce’s visual album Lemonade. You may reference the lyrics to her song while watching. 

  • Annotation Focus: What does Lemonade teach us about being a black woman? About feminism? About expectations for women who are in relationships with men? About friendships among black women?
