Target Task

Discussion & Writing Prompt

Pick any type of food. Write a paragraph and create a poster that shows what happens after the food has been eaten and as it is going through the digestive system. Make sure to include specific details and diagrams to support your explanation.

Notes

  • The focus for these two days is on synthesizing everything that students have learned about digestion and transferring that knowledge to explain what happens when they eat something. This lesson is spread across two or three days, depending on your students. Students should spend the first day drawing the visual and labeling the visual using what they have learned about text features. The next day, students should learn to fill out a Single Paragraph Outline as a class and write a shared paragraph together explaining the steps of digestion.
