Key Questions

  • How do authors start chapter books? (introducing the characters and telling us a little about each)
  • What is dialogue? How do we read it? (Model reading different characters with different expression; model figuring out who is saying what and what we can learn from what they are saying.)

  • Read the first part of the chapter aloud. Then have students read the second half with a partner.
  • Create a character anchor chart to track information about all of the different characters.
