  • This is a writing-about-reading/discussion day.
  • The focus is on students giving advice to Keena based on the lessons that Keena should be learning. In the advice letters students should include specific action steps and explanations. Student letters should also connect directly to specific key plot events from the text.
  • Similar to other lessons, the first part of the lesson should involve synthesizing, retelling and charting the key plot events from the text. Create an anchor chart that can be added to over the course of the unit.
  • The discussion prior to the letter writing should also support the essential question: 
    • What does it mean to be honest? Why is it important to show honesty in your everyday lives?
