Notes

  • Think about your class and school demographics when planning this lesson:
    • If multiple cultures are represented in your class, consider breaking students into groups so all cultures can be represented. Students could learn more about the different cultures by conducting interviews or reading nonfiction texts about a particular culture.
    • If there are cultures represented in the community that are not represented in your class, find ways for students to learn about those cultures. Bring guests into the classroom to share information about a particular culture or find additional nonfiction texts for students to read.
    • If there are no different cultures represented in your classroom community, select a few cultures that are present across the United States for students to research and learn about.
  • The structure of this project will vary depending on how students are gathering information. The project should be spread across multiple days to ensure students have ample time to research, create a presentation, and then share.
