Notes

  • This text should be done as a read aloud. This text is meant to be a background building/launch into the unit. Students will learn about all of the concepts in this text in depth in later lessons. Therefore, do not worry about content mastery in this lesson. The focus instead should be on helping students become inquisitive and curious about forces and motion.
  • After reading the text allow time for students to ask questions about the content.
  • If time, lead students in an introductory lab with an uncooked egg and a hard-boiled egg. See Science A-Z unit launch as an example.

Common Core Standards

  • RI.3.3 — Describe the relationship between a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, or steps in technical procedures in a text, using language that pertains to time, sequence, and cause/effect.
