  • For this writing day push students to synthesize what they have learned from all of the different poems they have read. Challenge them to think about each of the different structural elements and how each element of poetry adds meaning or creates a different mood/tone. Have students give examples of particular poems in which the structural elements deeply impacted the overall message of the poem and what they learned about the ways of living things.
  • Included with this lesson is a Sample Lesson Plan, as an example of how one of our teachers has implemented this lesson.

  • W.3.1 — Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons.
