Target Task

Write a poem about a hero of your choice. It can be an everyday hero like a family member (or your teacher!), a famous hero from literature, a historical hero, or a contemporary hero from the world. Make sure to use the following poetic devices to enhance the tone and theme:

  •  Maintain one narrative POV throughout the poem.
  •  Use two examples of figurative language.
  •  Use one example of imagery.

Key Questions

Read your poem and answer the following questions:

  • What line resonates most with you? Explain your answer.
  • What is the tone in your poem and how did you develop it? Make sure to use one or two pieces of diction to support your answer.
  • What is the narrative point of view? Why did you choose that particular one? How does it enhance your story?

Notes

Students should read their poems aloud to the class, practicing volume and eye contact in public speaking.
