Target Task


Which god or goddess would you most like to be related to? Explain why in three to five complete sentences using examples from the online sources.

Project Overview


  • Have students fill out the worksheet “The Gods of Olympus” in The Lightning Thief: A Teacher's Guide (pp. 7-8) to see how much they know about Greek mythology. Once they’ve filled out as much as they know on their own, have them work with a partner to compare notes. This works well as a timed activity. Make it a competition to see who can get the most, with their partner, in two to five minutes. Stress that it is okay to be wrong on this activity—they are simply trying to jog their memory from the third- and fourth-grade Greek and Roman myth units as much as possible.
  • Students will need computers for this task. Ask students to research which of the 12 gods or goddesses on Mt. Olympus to whom they would most like to be related. Students should write down their top three choices and explain each. For ideas, visit these web sites:
