Target Task

One way to make inferences about characters is to see how they respond to the challenges they face. What is the challenge Percy faces in this scene? How does he respond to that challenge? Based on Percy’s response to this challenge, what can you infer about Percy as a person that the author doesn’t directly tell you? For example, when Bobofit is harassing Grover on the bus, Percy wants to stand up to her, but Grover pulls him back down. This shows that Percy is a protective friend and does not like to see people getting bullied. Make sure you choose a challenge he faces from chapter 2 and support your inference with details from the text.
