Writing Prompt

Choose one of the two poems we read today. Describe the poet’s message about love and explain how s/he uses both structure and figurative language to develop a central idea.

Notes

  • “Fog” can be used as a quick Do Now to introduce/review figurative language. The majority of class should be spent on the two poems with themes of love.
  • This lesson connects to the discussion of the structure of the novel in Lesson 5 and the discussion of love in Lesson 7. These connections should be made explicit to students through questioning.

Next

Explore the theme of love and how the author conveys this theme in chapters two and three.
