Tips for Teachers

  • There are two Anchor Tasks for this lesson that address putting together and taking apart problems. If you find students need more help or guidance before the problem set, structure the problem set time to be team centered or release students to work on a problem and discuss. You can also use a gallery walk structure as well to look at and compare student representations and approaches.
  • To help students understand word problems, using the 3 reads routine and acting out or modeling the problems could be used as an access point. Read more about word problems here.

Lesson Materials

  • Optional: Manipulatives (As needed)
  • Optional: White board (1 per student)
