Use place value drawings to add within 1,000 with up to two compositions of a new unit.

Criteria for Success


  1. Draw three-digit numbers to represent the value of hundreds, tens, and ones for two addends in the problem. 
  2. Combine like units together to add from ones to hundreds.
  3. When there are more than 9 ones, exchange 10 ones  for a ten. 
  4. When there are more than 9 tens, exchange 10 tens for a hundred.
  5. Recognize and explain when a new unit is made in given addition situations.
