  1. Understand that 10 tens can be bundled into a new unit called a hundred.
  2. Recognize that a hundred can be composed in different ways including 100 ones or 10 tens.

Tips for Teachers


In first grade, students’ place value knowledge was centered around the composition of two-digit numbers, so this is the start of understanding and working with a new unit, hundreds.
