Common Core Standards

Core Standards

  • 2.OA.A.1 — Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.

Foundational Standards

  • 1.NBT.C.4
  • 1.OA.A.1
  • 1.OA.D.8

Criteria for Success

  1. Understand that a dollar is the same as 100 cents.
  2. Subtract from 100 to find the remainder and show remainder in a coin collection.
  3. Add to make 100 and show additional amount as a coin collection.

Tips for Teachers

Students will be adding to make 100 and subtracting from 100 in this lesson. If students need additional support as part of the warm-up complete a review of adding to a 100 and subtracting from a hundred with generalizable methods.
