Tips for Teachers

This lesson continues on with students' work with word problems but with money context. As students write their solution sentences, ensure students are attending to the cents or dollar sign appropriately depending on the problem context. Remind students that when they are referring to cents the sign comes after the amount and if they are talking about dollars or dollar bills, the sign comes before. This is a convention that should be explicitly taught especially for multilingual learners.
