Tips for Teachers

In this lesson students will build on their story problems solving by combining add to and take from change unknown problem types, considered to be middle difficulty subtypes with easier results unknown subtypes. By the end of second grade students should be proficient in these types of two-step word problem combinations with addition and subtraction. If your students need additional support with add-to, take-from or change-unknown problems before beginning the Anchor Tasks for this lesson you can do a warm up with those problem subtypes.
