How would you describe the narrator's current approach to the Brotherhood? Explain using evidence from the chapter.

  • p. 513: In the first line of the chapter, "yessing" most likely means what?
  • p. 514: "I almost lost the confidence of my invisibility." What does the narrator mean here? How has the author developed the motif of invisibility/blindness?
  • What does the narrator tell the Brotherhood? Why?
  • Who is Sybil? In what way is the narrator using her? In what way is she using him? What might the author be saying about identity here?
  • p. 526: Who calls? How does the narrator respond?

    • What does the narrator learn at Hambro's apartment? How does he react to this news?
    • What does the narrator decide about his grandfather's advice toward the end of the chapter? Why? (p. 509)
