Vocabulary

Review all vocabulary words from previous lessons.

Notes

  • The focus of this lesson is on understanding author’s craft and fluency. In the previous two lessons, students focused on unpacking meaning. This lesson pushes students to think about how the author’s use of particular craft features helps a reader better understand a text. They also have the opportunity to read the text themselves, to practice reading fluently with expression.
  • While the focus of this lesson is on understanding how words contribute to understanding of the central idea, students should still spend the majority of the lesson in the text, fluently rereading sections of the text.
  • It is important that students have the text in front of them to practice fluent reading.
