Describe Pinky, Rex, and Amanda and how each character responds to major events and challenges by stating a claim and then providing supporting evidence from the entire text.

Prior to the start of class, print out the quotes in the Hamlet Quote Card resource and glue/tape them to a notecard in order to be prepared for the opening activity. If possible, move the student desks/tables to the side of the room so that there is room for students to walk around. Alternatively, take students to a space outside the classroom where they will have more room to engage in the activity.
There is a lot to do in this lesson, and students don't always get to writing their paragraph. If you'd like to extend this lesson, use the following two lessons to give students more time and support to write a fully developed paragraph.

Think about the person you chose to be your best friend in Lessons 5, 10, and 14. After reading Pinky and Rex and the School Play, would you still choose them to be your best friend? Why or why not? Include evidence from the text.
