Notes

  • Have students pick something that moves. Potentially show students videos of different types of movement to help ground student answers and discussion. (Find some way to make this interactive and hands-on).
  • Then have the students describe the object's motion including speed, direction, or pattern. After they have described the motion, have them identify the force that causes the motion. Finally, students should explain the source of energy that provided the force.
  • Having students think about all of this all together will encourage them to make connections between everything they have learned and then fully articulate the connections. Students should be using the specific vocabulary from the unit.

Common Core Standards

  • RI.3.3 — Describe the relationship between a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, or steps in technical procedures in a text, using language that pertains to time, sequence, and cause/effect.
  • W.3.1 — Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons.
