A Note for Teachers


Ponyboy continues to deal with processing the trauma he has experienced in today's reading. As part of intellectual preparation, read about responses to trauma in the article "Traumatic Events: Causes, Effects and Management", especially the section titled "How do people respond to traumatic events?". Consider how to create a safe space for discussion in the classroom and how to support students with interpreting Ponyboy's behavior.

  • What is one sentence that builds tension in the scene?
