Discussion Questions

  • How do human beings respond when subjected to unthinkable horror? How can hope and optimism be used as forms of resistance against systematic dehumanization? What do these responses reveal about human nature?

  • What role does Judaism play in both Anne's and Eliezer's lives? How does it shape their identities and the way they understand the world?

  • Are human beings really good at heart? What do these texts demonstrate about the relationships among selfishness, selflessness, and human nature?
