A Note for Teachers

In this writing experience, students explore the issue of inappropriate shifts in verb tense, voice, and mood. Using examples from the reading, students can discuss the effect of different sentence structures and the use of different moods.

Target Task

Writing Prompt

In this writing project, you will work in small groups to create a slideshow presentation about one specific aspect of Iranian culture and/or history. You will develop research questions, conduct online research, and create a five-minute informational presentation. You will then present the slideshow to educate your classmates about the topic. Each group will be assigned a day to present; many reading lessons will begin with a presentation that is relevant to the day's reading.

Your presentation should:

  • Comprise at least four informational slides and one bibliography slide
  • Include at least four relevant images (photographs, illustrations, maps, or graphs/charts)
  • Include an explanatory paragraph in the "speaker notes" section of each slide
  • Include a quotation from a witness or expert on the topic
  • Explain why this aspect of Iranian history or culture is important
  • Be organized logically
  • Provide background information, technical terms, and/or definitions necessary to understand the content
