Have students investigate some of Jacob Lawrence's paintings of the Great Migration. Recommended are Panel 1 and Panel 3 from the Migration Series. The key question is: How does the artist depict the events of the Great Migration? According to Morrison, how do the women she is describing feel about their fellow migrants? Why?
