Key Questions

  • What does Garvey realize in the poem "Photo Album"?

  • What advice does Joe give Garvey? Why is it important?

  • What is the significance of the poems "Turtle" and "Busted"?

  • Why is the poem on page 54 titled "Garvey’s Choice"? What choice does Garvey make?

  • Why does Garvey tell Angela, but not his mom and dad?

Notes

This section of poems shows how Garvey is beginning to change. Garvey has the confidence to audition for chorus. Making it into the chorus begins to influence Garvey and the way that he sees himself, although he is still worried about the way others, especially his mother and father, will view him.
