Writing Prompt

The Watsons Go to Birmingham – 1963 is a novel told from the perspective of a young person, describing important events in his life. Some of these stories are funny, some sad, some upsetting, and all of them are important in shaping who Kenny is. 

In this task, you will write a short memoir about an important event in your own life. Your memoir should:

  • Be written in the first person 
  • Introduce setting, characters, and a narrator
  • Be organized logically
  • Include dialogue
  • Include descriptive, sensory details
  • Use precise words and phrases
  • Include a strong conclusion

Additionally, you must include two of the following vocabulary words in your writing: narcissist, vital, emulate, profound, incentive, conscientious, enhance, hostile, prevalent, wily, trauma, atrocity, vehement, dynamic, objective.
