Lesson Map

Topic A: Associations in Bivariate Numerical Data

Lesson

Define bivariate data. Analyze data in scatter plots.

Standards

8.SP.A.1

Lesson

Create scatter plots for data sets and make observations about the data.

Standards

8.SP.A.1

Lesson

Identify and describe associations in scatter plots including linear/nonlinear associations, positive/negative associations, clusters, and outliers.

Standards

8.SP.A.1

Lesson

Informally fit a line to data. Judge the fit of the line and make predictions about the data based on the line.

Standards

8.SP.A.2

Lesson

Write equations to represent lines fit to data and make predictions based on the line.

Standards

8.SP.A.3

Lesson

Interpret the slope and $$y$$-intercept of a fitted line in context.

Topic C: Project

Lesson

(Day 1) Develop a meaningful bivariate statistical question about climate change and predict the relationship between two measurable variables that could be investigated using data.

Standards

8.SP.A.18.SP.A.2

Lesson

(Day 2) Collect and organize climate data that can be used to investigate a statistical relationship between two variables.

Standards

8.SP.A.18.SP.A.2

Lesson

(Day 3) Represent climate data using scatter plots and describe patterns in the relationship between two variables.

Standards

8.SP.A.1

Lesson

(Day 4) Draw and write an equation for a line fit to climate data displayed in a scatter plot.

Standards

8.SP.A.28.SP.A.3
