Dilations and Similarity

Lesson 15

Math

Unit 3

10th Grade

Lesson 15 of 18

Objective

Develop the angle bisector theorem based on facts about similarity and congruence, and use this in the solution of problems.

Common Core Standards

Core Standards

  • G.SRT.B.5 — Use congruence and similarity criteria for triangles to solve problems and to prove relationships in geometric figures.

Foundational Standards

  • 8.G.A.4

Criteria for Success

  1. Use auxiliary lines to create parallel line diagrams.
  2. Identify similar and congruent relationships within diagrams that allow for further relationships to be established.
  3. Explain that the angle bisector theorem is when the bisector of an angle splits the opposite sides of a triangle into segments that have the same ratio as the sides adjacent to the angle being bisected.
