This April, the Fishtank Math team hosted a live webinar to review the exciting updates coming to 1st, 7th, and 8th Grade for the 2025–26 school year. Whether you joined us live or are catching up now, here’s your complete recap of what’s new—and how these updates will support both students and educators.
As Fishtank Math grows, we’re excited to offer expanded resources and refinements grounded in teacher feedback, research, and classroom needs. For 2025–26, you can expect: a brand-new, full-year Grade 1 course, revisions to 2nd Grade, and instructional enhancements for 7th Grade and 8th Grade.
We’re thrilled to introduce our comprehensive 1st Grade Math curriculum, the next step toward a cohesive K–8th Grade Fishtank Math offering. The new 1st Grade Math course features: a full sequence of units, familiar structures like Anchor Tasks, Fluency Activities, and Word Problems, and brand-new features such as center activities, lesson warm-ups, and observational assessments. The 1st Grade Math course will cover concepts such as:
The new 1st Grade course is aligned with the Fishtank Math Guiding Principles and is designed to connect Math and ELA in a meaningful way, especially in the K-5th Grade space. The first units of Grade 1 will be made available in June.
For 2nd Grade, the team is refining the curriculum to ensure stronger alignment and instructional clarity. These refinements will be released in phases during Spring and Summer 2025.
Our updates to 7th and 8th Grade are designed to provide teachers with deeper instructional guidance and better support student learning.
Anchor Problems in 7th and 8th grades will undergo revisions to make them more engaging and relevant to students' lived experiences. Educators will also receive facilitation guidance to help them guide discussions and ensure students fully grasp mathematical concepts.
Alongside Anchor Problem revisions, warm-ups will be added to each lesson, helping to activate prior knowledge and engage students from the start. Target Task Look Fors will be introduced, offering educators key indicators to assess student understanding beyond just the correct answer. Spiral review questions will be added to each unit, helping reinforce and retain previously learned concepts.
These updates will provide clearer guidance to educators, helping them incorporate best practices and culturally responsive teaching into their lessons and making math more accessible, enhancing both instructional clarity and student engagement. Unit 1 updates for 7th and 8th Grade are now available!
The first four 1st, 2nd, 7th, and 8th Grade units will launch in Summer 2025! All remaining units across all grades will be released on a rolling basis, allowing teachers to prepare ahead of time for the school year.
