5th Grade Math

In this Common Core-aligned course, students continue to explore operations with fractions; develop understanding of operations containing whole numbers and decimals to hundredths; and familiarize themselves with volume.

6th Grade Math

Students learn key concepts in their progression towards middle school algebra, including ratios and rates, rational numbers, algebraic expressions and equations, area and volume, and statistics.

7th Grade Math

In this course students develop their skills in proportional reasoning, rational number computation, expressions and equations, geometry, and statistics and probability.

8th Grade Math

Students make several advances in their algebraic reasoning as they solve systems of linear equations, use functions to describe relationships, and analyze two- and three-dimensional figures.

8th Grade - Exponents and Scientific Notation

Students learn to simplify complex-looking exponential expressions, and they learn efficient ways to describe, communicate, and operate with very large and very small numbers.

7th Grade - Operations with Rational Numbers

Students extend the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to include positive and negative rational numbers, and build fluency with evaluating numerical expressions.

6th Grade - Multi-Digit and Fraction Computation

Students extend their understanding of multiplication and division to divide fractions by fractions, and develop fluency with whole number and decimal operations.

7th Grade - Numerical and Algebraic Expressions

Students manipulate expressions into different equivalent forms as they expand, factor, add, and subtract numerical and algebraic expressions and face authentic real-world, multi-step problems.

5th Grade - Addition and Subtraction of Fractions/Decimals

Students extend their computational work to include fractions and decimals, adding and subtracting numbers in those forms in this unit before moving to multiplication and division in subsequent units.

6th Grade - Rational Numbers

Students are introduced to integers and rational numbers, extending the number line to include negative values, understanding the order of rational numbers, and interpreting them in context.

7th Grade - Percent and Scaling

Students expand on and apply their understanding of percentages by studying percent increase and decrease, percent applications such as tax and simple interest, and scaled geometric drawings.

5th Grade - Multiplication and Division of Fractions

Students deepen their understanding of fraction multiplication and begin to explore to fraction division (and fractions as division), as well as apply this new understanding to the context of line plots.

8th Grade - Linear Relationships

Students compare proportional relationships, define and identify slope from various representations, graph linear equations in the coordinate plane, and write equations for linear relationships.

8th Grade - Pythagorean Theorem and Volume

Students learn about irrational numbers, approximating square roots of non-perfect square numbers, and investigate the well-known Pythagorean Theorem to solve for missing measures in right triangles.

8th Grade Math - Unit 7: Pythagorean Theorem and Volume - Lesson 1

Define, evaluate, and estimate square roots.

7th Grade Math - Unit 3: Numerical and Algebraic Expressions - Lesson 2

Write and evaluate expressions for mathematical and contextual situations.

8th Grade Math - Unit 7: Pythagorean Theorem and Volume - Lesson 2

Understand that some numbers, including $${\sqrt{2}}$$, are irrational. Approximate the value of irrational numbers.

8th Grade Math - Unit 1: Exponents and Scientific Notation - Lesson 3

Investigate patterns of exponents with positive/negative bases and even/odd bases.

7th Grade Math - Unit 3: Numerical and Algebraic Expressions - Lesson 3

Expand and factor expressions using the distributive property and the greatest common factor.

7th Grade Math - Unit 3: Numerical and Algebraic Expressions - Lesson 4

Expand and factor expressions with negative rational numbers.
